Heritage
The Pine was the second Solent variant, introduced a year after the Midnight in response to consistent enquiries. Harold resisted green dials for the first two years of the brand — too many makers were doing them, and doing them badly. He finally agreed to develop one on the condition that the green be unmistakably British rather than tropical. The sunburst and the depth of the base colour took four rounds of dial samples to settle.
Design
Harold's private test for whether a colour works on a sport watch: can you wear it with a navy jacket, a brown jacket, and a grey jumper without looking like you've thought about it. The Pine passes that test. Lighter greens — forest green, sage, olive — don't, in his view.
